County Issues

Loudon County is currently, and will continue to be faced with some unique challenges not the least of which is the explosion of growth in commercial and residential development. The very things that make Loudon County such wonderful place to live are the same things that are attracting so much new development to our County. If we don't address the uncontrolled, unchecked development, we will soon lose the very things that make our County such a great place to live. We must address our outdated and obsolete (1971) zoning regulations that are leading to the unsightly and difficult urban sprawl. We must have persons in our regulatory positions who understand and appreciate the importance and values of preserving the natural resources of our local communities. We need more people who are interested in preserving our communities rather than selling us out to the highest bidder.

Other immediate challenges facing Loudon County will be to strike a balance between providing fair and equitable pay and benefits for our many dedicated employees with out over bearing the tax payers. As Loudon County's largest employer, we owe it to all of our employees to provide them with good pay and benefits and a safe, comfortable working environment. Any employer knows that to get and retain good quality employees you must offer a good all around package. The County currently has no particular system for fair pay equity. We must sit down with our employees and develop a comprehensive all encompassing plan to address fairness with pay equity.

Based on recent financial findings, the massive 2005-2006 property tax increase should be rolled back. Eliminating wasteful and unnecessary spending is a much more logical solution than raising taxes.
