Tony's Big Lie 2

Don't know if it's the pressure of his first contested mayor election or the fear of possibly losing his seat is getting to him, but it seems Lenoir City mayor, Tony Aikens, is struggling to get things right, again. This isn't the first time Aikens got something way wrong. Tony's Big lie 1.

Last week, Aikens re-posted a statement on his official mayor Facebook page that claimed county property taxes went up 40%. Of course this is ridiculous and totally untrue. Shortly there after, the post was gone but not before a number of people had commented on it.

In a response to a commenter who questioned the post, Aikens said:

Aikens didn't bother to give any details on his claim of how I'm dividing Loudon County, simply because it's not true. Let's review. It was Aikens who:

Got the council to raise his pay from $6,900 per year to over $100,000.00 per year.
Got the council to pass the Rain Tax.
Got the council to pass two illegal annexations. (currently in litigation currently costing $$$$)
Got the council to give away city property to enhance his business deal.
Got the council to vote for a gas tax increase.
Got the council to vote for a sales tax increase in 2018.
Got the council to vote for a 17% property tax increase in 2021.
Got the council to vote for sales tax increase in 2024.
Got the council to vote for every mass development in Lenoir City.
Got the council to pass millions of dollars in tax breaks for certain businesses and developments.
Refuses to pay the city's portion of the 911 Emergency Communications bill.

This is just a partial list.

Aikens knows well that he has been governing against the will of the people in Lenoir City for years but never cared before. Now all of a sudden he's a man of the people and wants to tout the teamwork of himself and his council members running for re-election. Lenoir City can't take much more of their teamwork. Can mayoral candidate, Wayne Collins, bring an end the Aikens rampage, I have no idea. But for sure this is certainly a political, David and Goliath contest.

I guess my crime was reporting on the votes and actions of the mayor and council. I'll make the same offer I've made many times, call me out, prove me wrong. I would challenge mayor Aikens to explain the ways I have divided anything. From looking at the list above, it looks like Aikens is the great divider.

Nothing will ever change in Lenoir City until something changes in Lenoir City.
