Woman arrested after reckless driving

A Knoxville woman is facing multiple drug charges after law enforcement responded to a call Saturday of reckless driving on the interstate.

Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Brandon Pesterfield was dispatched for a reckless driver heading west on Interstate 40. Dispatch told Pesterfield an off-duty emergency medical technician was behind the vehicle, which was “crossing all three lanes of the interstate.” The EMT noted the vehicle ran off the road and was believed to have hit a wall.

Before stopping the vehicle near the Lenoir City exit of Interstate 75, Pesterfield witnessed the vehicle cross lanes of traffic. The driver, Cherie L. Kubisty, 36, had glassy, red eyes, constricted pupils and appeared sluggish.

“I asked the offender if she had anything to drink tonight, to which she responded that she did not,” Pesterfield wrote in a report. “I asked the offender if she took prescribed medication, to which she stated she takes (Gabapentin).”

Kubisty performed poorly on field sobriety tests. She declined having anything illegal in the vehicle.

“I asked the offender again and she stated there was marijuana inside the vehicle,” Pesterfield wrote in a report. “She also stated there were pills inside the vehicle. Upon search of the vehicle, located in the offender’s purse was about 15 (grams) of a green leafy substance inside the offender’s (Gabapentin) 500 (milligram) bottle.”

Also inside the bottle were two brown pills and a blue pill believed to be amphetamine and dextroamphetamine 20 milligram. Three green pills and one orange pill believed to be oxymorphone were in the vehicle’s center console.

Kubisty was charged driving under the influence and three counts of simple possession/casual exchange and released on $9,000 bond.

The vehicle also had mud down the side consistent with the mud on his clothes. He also stated at one point he was not in the car and then stated he was and he came out the passenger side.” There was a tree on that side of the vehicle, and Bowen determined no one could leave the vehicle from that side.
