Woman arrested after
high-speed chase
A Harriman woman was arrested Saturday after leading police on a drunken, high-speed chase. Lenoir City Police Officer Andrew Lee was conducting routine patrol on U.S. Highway 321 when he saw a maroon Nissan Altima approach his car at a high speed near White Wing Road. The Altima abruptly changed lanes and continued speeding down U.S. 321. Lee caught up with the car, which was traveling 75 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone, Lee wrote in a report.
The
Altima did not slow down when Lee activated his patrol vehicle
lights and continued down the road until it reached a red light at
Highways 321 and 70,
Jessica Marie Fairres, 33,
finally stopped and Lee asked her to put the car in park and
hand him the keys.
Fairres put the car in
park but told Lee “the vehicle did not have keys.” She refused
to exit the vehicle when Lee asked her to step out, instead
attempting to flee in her vehicle. Fairres struck the car in
front of her and continued down U.S. 321 at 87 mph.
She stopped at an
establishment near the Interstate 75 exit ramps but refused to
exit her vehicle. She told Lee she couldn’t get out of her car
because of a leg injury, so Lee handcuffed her in the car until
the transport van arrived.
“Once the transport unit
arrived and the offender had been secured, she began screaming
and kicking the door of the van,” Lee wrote in a report. “Sgt.
Hutchison opened the door to find the offender had unsecured
herself and switched seats. Sgt. Hutchison assisted the offender
back to the other seat and advised while doing so he smelled a
strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from her breath and
person.”
Fairres admitted to having
alcohol earlier in the day. Due to her injuries, sobriety tests
were not performed. She consented to a blood draw.
Dispatch informed Lee that
Fairres’ license was revoked for driving under the influence,
which Fairres explained as the reason why she evaded arrest.
Fairres was charged with
driving under the influence, reckless endangerment and evading
arrest and released on $20,000 bond.
Man robs women at gunpoint
A
Philadelphia man was arrested Sunday after robbing two women and
leaving them on the side of the road.
John Russell Stone, 23,
was “riding around” with two women in the back seat of his car
when he stopped and exited the vehicle. He went to the back
door, showed the women a black Sig Sauer 9mm handgun and
demanded they get out of the car.
Stone took a black and
white Adidas drawstring backpack and $1,000 from the women.
He also punched one of the women in the mouth and side of
the head before getting back in the car and leaving both of
them on the side of the road, Loudon County Sheriff’s Office
Inv. Christopher Bowen wrote in a report.
The women called 911
to report what happened, and Stone was later found in
Philadelphia. He was transported to the Loudon County
Justice Center. During an interview, Stone revealed the
weapon, money and property were located at his residence in
Philadelphia. Bowen searched the residence with consent from
Stone and found the items, Bowen wrote in a report.
