Historically, Lenoir City property tax bills go out the first week of October. I did ask a city official why the tax bills were so late this year. According to them, the company that does the printing of the actual bills has had a printing press issue for several weeks but the tax bill should be in the mail this week. No reason to doubt this information.

However, given the perceived corruptness of some in Lenoir City government, a lot of people think the tax bills are being held up so city voters don't get hit with their ever increasing tax bills just at election time.

You'll remember, Just last year, the mayor/council raised property taxes by 17%, one of the largest property tax increases in recent history. It's easy to understand why some in Lenoir City would be suspect of their elected officials.

Guess we'll see if the tax bills make it out before the election.
