UPDATE FROM FBI

VONORE, Tenn. (WATE) — A bank robbery is under investigation, the FBI confirmed Friday.

Federal agents and Vonore Police Department officers responded to a call around 10:30 a.m. to Simmons Bank located in the 1200 block of Highway 411 North.

The FBI has identified the suspect as the “Bluetooth Bandit” that robbed a Lenoir City bank on Nov. 5.

The male suspect entered the credit union, approached a teller, and demanded money. The teller complied with the demand, and the suspect fled the bank on foot with an undetermined amount of cash.

Cindy Pierce is the manager of the Smok ‘N’ Bonz BBQ right behind the bank. She says she was shocked to hear the it was robbed.

“It’s a quiet neighborhood. We just made sure our doors were locked. We didn’t want him to come in the back or around the front or anything,” Pierce said.

The suspect was described as a white male in his 40s to early 50s and between 5 feet, 10 inches and 6 feet tall. The suspect was wearing a black knit gaiter over his face and a camouflage trucker’s style hat with a Caterpillar “CAT” logo on the front. The back of the hat was mesh-style and was a bright yellow or green in color.

He was also wearing a gray zip-up jacket with dark pants and dark shoes. In addition, the suspect was wearing a Bluetooth headset during the robbery.
