Unwanted picture taking leads to gun being pulled Michael Thomason advocatedemocrat.com
A Loudon man was arrested Saturday afternoon after he
allegedly pulled a gun on a bartender.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy C.J. Williams said it
was shortly before 3 p.m. when he went to the Highway 11 Package
Deli on a call of a disturbance. Williams said he talked to
Elizabeth Queen, a bartender at the business, who told him trouble
started when Richard Michael Roy had taken a picture of a woman and
her 2-year-old son and then refused to delete it when asked to.
Williams was told the woman asked Roy why he had
taken the picture and asked him to delete it several times, but said
Roy denied the requests.
Queen said
she then asked Roy to delete the picture, but Roy refused and Queen
said she grabbed the phone to delete the picture. This apparently
did not sit well with Roy as he got up from his seat and went behind
the bar with Queen.
Queen told Roy to stop and grabbed a wooden paddle.
She told officers that she walked backwards to get away from Roy,
but he caught up and allegedly hit her in the face. Queen said she
retaliated by hitting him several times with the paddle.
Queen said Roy fell to the ground, but got back up
and walked toward her, attempted to grab her, and she hit him with
the paddle several more times.
Queen told Williams that Roy then pulled a handgun
out and pointed it at her face, but another man in the bar quickly
took it away from him, and law enforcement arrived shortly
thereafter.
Williams found a .380-semi automatic pistol in
Roy’s right, front pocket and noted it was loaded with a round
in the chamber. He also found a loaded magazine in Roy’s left
pocket.
According to officers, Roy smelled of alcohol and
a review of security footage showed the incident unfolding.
Roy, 65, Shubert Street, Loudon, was arrested and
charged with aggravated assault, three counts reckless
endangerment and possession of a handgun while under the
influence of alcohol.
