Two arrested as gunshots lead to bust

A Loudon man and Lenoir City woman were arrested and charged on multiple drug charges Feb. 18 after officers responded to gunfire.

Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Craig Brewer called in that shots were fired at a Lenoir City residence. LCSO Investigator Marty Stanley, aided by patrol units, cleared the residence before talking with Kevin Dwayne Helton, 33.

Stanley learned Helton had left money in the residence’s mailbox for someone to pick up, but asked them not to pull into the driveway when they came to retrieve it. After a person went against these wishes because the roadway was busy, they and Helton got into a heated argument, which led Helton to retrieve a 9mm weapons from inside the home and fire several shots into an adjacent wooded area as a warning.

While clearing the residence, Lt. Charlie Cosner noticed several items of drug paraphernalia and asked for consent to search the premises from Helton and Brittany Michelle Currier, 24, the home’s resident. After walking through the residence, Stanley found a safe cracked open with two glass jars of prescription pills inside.

Further searches revealed 451 two milligram Xanax pills, 178.2 grams of Xanax pill pieces, 28.3 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 32.8 grams of marijuana, four suboxone strips, a two-milligram diazepam, 1.2 grams of crystal meth and 1.2 grams of fentanyl. Officers also retrieved two drug ledgers, digital scales, baggies, snorting straws, four cellphones, $310 hidden in a boot and two firearms. Several unidentified powders were sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation lab for testing.

Helton was charged with reckless endangerment, domestic assault, possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony, manufacture, sell, delivery, resale of a Schedule I substance, manufacture, sell, delivery, resale of a Schedule II substance, manufacture, sell, delivery, resale of a Schedule IV substance, manufacture, sell, delivery, resale of a Schedule VI substance, two counts of simple possession/casual exchange, manufacturing, delivery, sale or possession of meth and two counts of capias-general sessions and held on $12,000 bond.

Currier was charged with possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony, manufacture, sell, delivery, resale of a Schedule I substance, manufacture, sell, delivery, resale of a Schedule II substance, manufacture, sell, delivery, resale of a Schedule IV substance, manufacture, sell, delivery, resale of a Schedule VI substance, two counts of simple possession/casual exchange, possession of drug paraphernalia and manufacturing, delivery, sale or possession of meth and held without bond.
