True to my word and I always plan to do, I need to
correct a mistake I made in Monday's story, TVPOA Exit Tax.
Come to find out, it's not so much of an exit tax as it is an entry tax. In the confusion of transfer, transferer, transferee, I missed the fact that the buyer of a home or land in the village would be the one to pay the $2,500.00 tax, not the seller. I had called it an exit tax as though the seller had to pay the $2,500.00 tax. Potato, Patato? Fact is, an exit or an entry tax has about the same effect. It takes money from a homeowner and gives it to the government, in this case, TVPOA. The far bigger story is the fact that a few, select people from the TVPOA tried to slip one by the folks in the village they're suppose to represent. If the entry tax was such a good idea, why didn't the TVPOA put it out on their Telegram and social media to let their residents know about it instead of trying to backdoor it? The good news is, according to 21st District representative, Lowell Russell, now that he knows that the residents of Tellico Village are opposed, he will not be moving it forward in Nashville. The TVPOA was going to make village facilities gun free zones, then they are jacking up the water rates if they think the residents are using too much. Now it's an entry tax to buy into the village. Lesson here for the TVPOA, stop trying to hide what you're doing from the residents. Be open and honest and let the will of the people in the village be done. Below is a statement from Lowell Russell:
