To no one's surprise, the Lenoir City
Planning Commission unanimously approved another massive housing
development in the already strained area of Old Hwy. 95. The one
change from the originally published agenda was that the
development would only be 150 units instead of 180 units. Some
on the board seem to find this as some kind of a win for the
city to have fewer units and thanked the developer for the
reduction. But later it was mentioned that the plan was always
for 150 and that the 180 was just a typo. Either way, this is
not a win for Lenoir City.
This development is being build by Turner
Homes and it was mentioned that this development will be like
the Harper Village development near the crossroads, zero lot
line townhomes. The name of the new development will be Fellows
Park.
One citizen was there to object to the plan.
Chuck Williams, who's property adjoins the development, began
his address to the board asking if there are city residents
asking for this kind of development, no one responded. At the
end of his remarks, his final statement was, "shame on all of
you." Very appropriate.
In the absence of the usual chairman, Leon
Shields, planning commission board member, David Martin, filled
in as chair. Last month you will remember, Martin had asked for
and was approved a for a
5 unit apartment structure" at 701 North F
Street. Martin works at LCUB and is
also a local realtor.
Add the new 150 units to the 104 new units at
the Ashmore development and the additional new 162 units in the
Harrison Glen development and it's not hard to see that traffic
on Old 95 is going to be a serious problem.
Will the insanity of what Mayor Aikens and the
city council are doing to the city never end? Is there anything
they would say no to?
Apparently not. |
