TN report details criminal
charges of people who immigrated illegally
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) The Tennessee District Attorneys General Conference has released its first immigration report, a compilation of data shared by law enforcement agencies detailing the number of people who were not lawfully present in the U.S. who were either charged with or convicted of a crime in the last three months of 2024.
The report features data
for October 1, 2024 through December 31, 2024. According to a
release from the conference, 73 of Tennessees 95 counties
submitted their monthly report during one of the required
reporting months, and 71 of those counties provided reports for
all three months.
During the three-month period, there were
approximately 3,854 total charges reported against 2,719 people
who were not legally in the country, and 447 of those charges
were violent offenses. 11 of the charges during that reporting
period were homicides.
The report also broke down the number of charges reported by county and offenses. The county with the most charges against individuals who were not legally in the country listed was Davidson County with 796, followed by Knox County with 242, Sumner County with 212 and Rutherford County with 189. In other East Tennessee counties, the following number of charges were listed:
Of the most reported
offenses, the top 10 list was led by driving under the
influence charges (654), followed by driving without a
license (549), traffic charges (533) and driving on a
suspended, revoked or cancelled license (243).
Domestic assault was the most frequent
violent offense and the fifth most charged overall (154).
Non-violent charges of public intoxication, failure to
appear, violation of probation, and open container rounded
out places six through nine on the list, with the violent
offense of aggravated assault rounding out the list at 80
charges.
While there were 80 aggravated assault charges listed, the report also separated out domestic related aggravated assaults with 27 charges reported, and assault with 20 charges reported. Some of the notable violent crimes listed were:
Although some of the reports did not include countries of origin, the most reported country of origin was Mexico (892) followed by Guatemala (564), Honduras (332), Venezuela (130) and El Salvador (86).
The new report is
the first of its kind and was released in compliance
with Public Charter 998 and state law. Find
