THP: 1 injured after officer-involved shooting near Knox/Loudon County line
 

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A person is in the hospital following an officer-involved shooting with the Tennessee Highway Patrol near the Knox/Loudon County line.

The THP shared that a pursuit in Knox County ended after the suspect crashed on Watt Road at the entrance to I-40 East. After the crash, the suspect is believed to have fired at officers with a rifle causing the troopers to return fire according to THP. The suspect was taken to the hospital and THP added that their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

“Preliminary information indicates the incident began with a traffic stop at approximately 7:25 p.m. in Loudon County,” the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation reported. “While a trooper was issuing a citation, the subject drove off. Troopers pursued the subject to the Watt Road exit off Interstate 40 East, where he drove off the road after turning right off the exit.”
 
The TBI is investigating. After their agents complete their investigation, their findings will be shared with the District Attorney’s Office.
