News Herald Arrest Report
Teen speeds through county in
chase
A
Lenoir City teen led officers Sunday on a high-speed chase
in a stolen car before totaling another vehicle.
Loudon County Sheriffs Office Deputy Cody Bengel drove past a home on Ford Road where he saw a burgundy 2010 Ford Taurus in the driveway. Bengel on Saturday took a report for a stolen vehicle for the same car only half a mile down the road.
Bengel
turned around to go back to the home when he saw the Taurus
pass, according to a report.
Bengel turned back around and pursued the vehicle as it sped off on Ford Road while driving recklessly in the middle of the road. The Taurus turned onto Highway 11 toward the Knox County line and attempted to pass three cars at speeds reaching over 100 mph on a blind curve. The Taurus collided with a Suburban head on.
The driver of the
Suburban attempted to drive into the ditch, but did not
make it in time. The Suburban was totaled, but the
driver was OK. Both vehicles were disabled, and the
Taurus came to rest in an embankment.
Bengel ordered the driver, Makalia Hope Robinson, 19, to place her hands on the car window. Robinson complied at first but then continued to use her phone. Robinson was removed from the car and taken into custody. Dispatch confirmed the Taurus was stolen.
Robinson performed
poorly on all field sobriety tests at the jail. Upon
search of the Taurus, deputies found a syringe and a
pill bottle with 1.5 grams of marijuana, two Gabapentin
and 60 Cyclobenzaprine.
Robinson was charged with reckless endangerment, vehicular assault, theft of property, vandalism, evading arrest, two counts of simple possession/casual exchange, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of legend drugs, reckless driving, driving under the influence, financial responsibility law, removal of registration decal or plate, driving on roadways laned for traffic, failure to move over for emergency vehicle and speeding 21 mph over limit and held without bond. Battered woman refuses help
Officers responded April 27 to reports of a domestic
assault only to find the man gone and victim
uncooperative.
Lenoir City Police Officer James Arden arrived at a home on Finley Drive and met a woman who was visibly upset. The woman was overheard on the phone saying, Youre not going to punch me in the face and point a gun at me, too, Arden wrote in a report.
The woman said she
and Davon Willis Moses Ernest Jordan Roberts Jr., 23,
Lenoir City, who she refused to name and was not home,
got in an argument about possession of a house key. The
woman had red skin on her neck and shoulders and a
swollen left eye, blood in her nostril and scratch marks
on her upper left arm, but repeatedly told officers the
altercation never got physical.
The woman
refused all recommendations for medical treatment
and told officers she was not in fear for her safety
or the safety of her children. Due to the womans
unwillingness to cooperate, Arden advised her of her
legal options before leaving.
As officers
were leaving, Arden saw a black Dodge truck parked
next to the house. The vehicle was registered to
Roberts.
Roberts was
arrested Thursday on outstanding warrants for
aggravated domestic assault and released on $10,000
bond.
