Sweetwater man leads chase in
stolen car
A
Sweetwater man was arrested Sunday on various charges after
leading local law enforcement officers on a high-speed
chase.
Lenoir City Police Officer Riley Miller responded to a business on U.S. Highway 321 to investigate reports of a stolen black Nissan. Miller and officer Shannon Runyan found the vehicle and attempted to stop it at Pearl Drive. The vehicle continued onto Pearl Drive and then Bethel Drive. The driver ignored sirens and blue lights, Miller wrote in a report. The driver continued to flee, heading back to Pearl Drive from Bethel Drive where a spike strip was struck by three of the cars four tires. The driver, Antonio Lee Sinnerard, 32, continued onto U.S. Highway 321 and reached speeds of 72 mph.
At the
intersection of Highway 321 and Cory Drive, Sinnerard
slowed before driving north in the southbound lane of
Highway 321. He turned onto Market Drive and drove
through various parking lots before getting back on the
highway.
Sinnerard ended the pursuit at a business on Highway 321 where he stopped the car and placed his hands outside the window. Sinnerard had a female passenger in the car with him. Both were instructed at gun point to exit the vehicle face down, Miller wrote in a report. Officers searched Sinnerard and found a baggie of 0.6 grams of methamphetamine and a baggie with an unknown pink powder substance with a straw. Officers found in the vehicle two homemade bongs, two glass pipes, one cut straw and baggies containing needles. Sinnerard claimed possession of all of the contents of the car. The woman said she was picked up in Lenoir City and was getting a ride to Sweetwater. She told Sinnerard to end the pursuit several times. Sinnerard corroborated her story and said she also didnt know the car was stolen. Sinnerard was charged with reckless endangerment, theft of property, evading arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, manufacture, delivery, sale or possession of meth and reckless driving and held without bond. Man fights with officers
A
Loudon man was arrested Friday on assault charges after
trying to break into a residence.
Loudon County Sheriffs Office Deputy Christopher Clemmer was called to a house at Clyde Street in reference to a man trying to break into a womans house. When Clemmer arrived, he saw Brian Wayne Mendenhall, 33, slam the house door. Clemmer met the woman who called 911 and asked where Mendenhall was. She told him out the back door, Clemmer wrote in a report.
Clemmer
searched the area and heard Mendenhall running
through the woods behind the house and told him to
stop. Mendenhall refused.
Clemmer circled the area in an attempt to find Mendenhall before coming back to the house. The woman said Mendenhall punched through a window and reached through to unlock the door from the inside. When Clemmer returned to the house, Mendenhall was there beating on the door. Clemmer told Mendenhall to walk toward him with his hands behind his back. He threw his jacket at Clemmer before trying to run away again. After giving Mendenhall more commands to stop, Clemmer deployed his taser, according to a report. The man continued to resist arrest. After Mendenhall was finally placed in cuffs, officers tried to put him in the back of a patrol car. He continued to fight by kicking and attempting to bite officers multiple times. Mendenhall was charged with violation of bond restriction, assault, aggravated assault, resisting arrest and public intoxication and held without bond. March 22
