News Herald Arrest Report
Sweetwater man jailed after
brief chase
A
Sweetwater man was arrested on multiple drug charges Jan. 15
after trying to evade law enforcement officers during a car
chase.
Loudon
County Sheriffs Office Deputy William Jenkins noticed a
vehicle speeding away on Spring Street in what he thought
was an attempt to elude him and decided to follow. When
Jenkins ran the vehicles tags, he learned the owner has a
suspended license.
Jenkins caught the vehicle and pulled over the driver on
Interstate 75.
When Jenkins asked the driver, Thomas Joshua Bowers, 32, for
his license, Bowers instead handed him an identification
card. Bowers also admitted he had been speeding to get away
from Jenkins.
Noticing a smell
of marijuana, Jenkins asked Bowers if he had marijuana,
which he denied. Jenkins then asked if Bowers had any
meth, which he also denied. Jenkins wrote in his report
that both times Bowers glanced at the passenger side
floorboard when answering.
Jenkins also asked
Bowers when he last smoked marijuana, to which he
replied the previous night.
Jenkins told
Bowers to exit the vehicle and placed him in custody
before searching the car. The deputy found 40.5 grams of
meth and 43 grams of marijuana in multiple baggies as
well as a digital scale, cut straws, a burnt glass pipe
and multiple needles. All items were located in the
passenger side floorboard.
Bowers refused to
perform a field sobriety test or consent to a blood
draw, instead reportedly saying, I just told you I did
dope an hour ago. Why would I take the test and let it
tell you that?
As Jenkins drove
Bowers to the Loudon County Jail, Jenkins asked Bowers
what he did for a living, to which he replied, What do
you think I do? You just caught me. I sell dope for a
living, according to the report.
Bowers had a
suspended license and active warrants out of Anderson,
Knox and Monroe counties.
Bowers was charged
with manufacture, sell, delivery and resale of a
Schedule II substance, manufacture, sell, delivery and
resale of a Schedule VI substance, simple
possession/casual exchange, possession of drug

implied consent, driving on revoked/suspended license
