dies in Loudon County crash SWEETWATER, Tenn. (WATE) — A 16-year-old Sweetwater High School student died in a car accident in Loudon County earlier this week. According to SHS co-athletic director Jeremy Henderson, Emily Corona, 16, was a student athlete who played on the soccer team and would have been a junior. The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office confirmed there was a fatal crash on Sunnyside Road in Philadelphia, Tenn. in which a 16-year-old was killed. Tennessee Highway Patrol worked the crash. According to THP’s initial crash report, the crash occurred around 1:25 a.m. Thursday morning. Two people in a 2005 Land Rover were traveling north on Sunnyside Road, when the vehicle went off the road while negotiating a curve; then overcorrected trying to return to the road, then overturned before coming to a rest on the road. The 16-year-old passenger, later identified as Corona, was ejected. She was not wearing a seat belt. There were no initial indications of drugs or alcohol, according to the initial crash report. The 18-year-old driver of the vehicle was injured in the incident, and the THP report states there are possible pending charges; but, the investigation is ongoing. There will be a drive-thru donation fundraiser on Tuesday, July 14 from 6-8 p.m. in front of the high school, with 100% of the donations going directly to her family.
