Shubert probe ongoing
A probe into complaints of theft and fraud against
Shubert Motor Sales in Lenoir City remains active.
Lenoir City Police Department, District Attorney
General Russell Johnson and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation
began a criminal investigation of Shubert Motors on Jan. 26, 2017.
TBI confirmed in August that the investigation was
ongoing, but a March 7 request for comment on the status of the
investigation was directed to Johnson.
Because the investigation was opened at the request
of Johnson, questioning should be directed to his office, Susan
Niland, TBI public information officer, said in an email
correspondence.
Johnson confirmed in a March 8 email that the
investigation remains ongoing but declined to respond to further
questions, including whether all three departments were still
involved in the investigation or reasons for the length of the
investigation.
Don White, Lenoir City police chief, called the
investigation “complex” when the News-Herald initially reported
March 1, 2017, that a probe into Shubert Motor Sales was active.
White said at the time that he hoped to release more information in
the near future.
On April 20, 2017, White said a resolution to the
case could be “months” away.
“We do expect that we will hopefully have some
information on what will be taking place but that’s probably
some time in the next few months,” White said.
Johnson did not provide any timetable indicating
when further information regarding the investigation may be
available.
