Scott Cummings resigns as
Lenoir City head football coach
LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (WATE) — Lenoir City High School is looking for it’s next high school football coach after head coach Scott Cummings resigned from the position.
Lenoir City Schools shared
on Monday that Cummings resigned from the position and would be
transitioning to an athletic director position in Knox County.
The school system thanked Cummings for his work and wished him
the best in his new position.
Cummings guided the Lenoir City to a 7-5 record
in 2024. The Panthers qualified for the Class 5A state playoffs
and reached the second round before falling to East Hamilton.
He previously served as the head coach of Oak Ridge in 2022. His head coaching career began at Knoxville West in 2002 where he set the program record for wins by a head coach over his 12-year tenure and captured the 2014 state championship. With Cummings’ resignation, the Panthers are searching for who their next head coach will be.
“The search for the
Panthers’ next head coach begins now, and the hiring of this
position is the top priority of our athletic program. We are
excited to find a coach who will commit to leading our young
men, and to building on the winning tradition of Panther
Football,” Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Chris
Brittan wrote in a letter, which was posted on social media.
Those interested in applying for the position
are encouraged to apply
on the Lenoir City Schools website or
email Brittain at cbrittain@lenoircityschools.net with any
questions.
