News Herald Arrest Report
Routine stop ends with drug arrest
A traffic stop for failing to wear a safety belt led
to the arrest of a Knoxville man after law enforcement found drugs
and drug paraphernalia.
Loudon Police Officer Jonathan Yates made a traffic
stop Thursday at Vonore Road after he noticed neither occupants in a
Honda Odyssey were wearing safety belts as they traveled on Grove
Street toward Highway 72.
Yates talked with a male driver as well as passenger
Kenneth Joel Jaynes, 37. Yates was given consent to search the
vehicle and immediately noticed what appeared to be a pistol in the
driver door.
“Both are convicted felons and were detained,”
Yates wrote in a report. “The gun turned out to be a BB gun. The
search uncovered several plastic bags scattered throughout the
center console and one bag that contained a white powder
substance believed to be methamphetamine. The substance weighed
approximately 2 grams. The substance did not have the same
consistency as what I have encountered and is possibly fake.”
Yates noted it was packaged and intended to pass
off as an illegal substance. He also found pipes, a needle and
cut straw with residue. The paraphernalia was found in a satchel
that also had a bag with less than 1 gram of meth that
field-tested positive.
Jaynes was arrested after the items were traced
back to him.
Jaynes was charged with possession of drug
paraphernalia and simple possession/casual exchange and held on
$4,000 bond.
Woman arrested
Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chance Gray
stopped a vehicle Saturday after he was informed by another
deputy that the driver was possibly intoxicated and traveling
100 miles per hour on Interstate 75 near mile marker 72.
The driver, Sidney Kristina Vandervort, claimed
she was “all over the road” because she was playing with her
cellphone.
“Ms. Vandervort stated that the reason she was
speeding was that she thought she was being followed,” Gray
wrote in a report.
Vandervort’s license came back suspended out of
Alabama for an accumulation of tickets as of Nov. 24. She was
also on felony bond for shooting at a motor vehicle in Alabama.
Vandervort, 19, Russellville, Ala., was charged
with driving on a revoked/suspended license and released on
$3,000 bond.

Observing a Chevrolet Cruze travel south on Martel Road at 61

stopped Burger in the 8000 block on Martel Road. While speaking
with Burger, Palmer noticed the smell of an alcoholic beverage
coming from the vehicle. Burger also appeared impaired. “While
Ms. Burger was looking for her license I observed she almost
caught her purse on fire because she was holding her cigarette
to the paper in her purse,” Palmer wrote in a report. Burger
denied drinking alcohol, but gave Palmer 17 different bottles of
pills when he noticed a bottle in her purse. She said she had
taken medication 30 minutes prior to the traffic stop. While
inventorying the vehicle, Palmer noticed an open bottle of
liquor in the front floor.

odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Kent, who admitted to
drinking earlier. “As I asked the driver to exit the vehicle ...
she put the vehicle in gear and drove off from the traffic
stop,” Woody wrote in a report. “The vehicle was observed
passing vehicles on the right shoulder and speeding in excess of
100 mph.” Kent turned onto the 76 exit and was last observed
