Road Standards 3

At the last county commission meeting, commissioners did pass the new development road standards. Only two commissioners, William Jenkins and Rosemary Quillen voted against the new standards.
  • Any development of ten lots or more must connect to a county road with a minimum width of twenty feet.
  • The width is measured from inside white line to inside white line.
  • The width must be twenty-foot average, measured every 100’ to the nearest road that measures 20’ or more.
  • This applies to all land in the county proper, including county land inside the urban growth boundary. Additionally, it applies to any municipality land, connecting to a county road.

The need for the updated road standard came about due to the concerns of county residents about over development especially in areas where the roads are too narrow to handle additional high volumes of traffic.

A request was sent to the Loudon County Planning Commission to develop to implement other aspects off the new standard to determine when turn lanes would be required, if the developer would be allowed to upgrade a road to meet the width requirement and any other additions to the new standard they feel necessary.

Unlike Lenoir City and Loudon, the county continues to implement new regs to protect the protect the county.
