After years of little action, the Loudon County Public Records Commission members rolled up their sleeves and went to work last week preparing hundreds of boxes of old, obsolete county records, that had been stored in the basement of the courthouse, for destruction. The records were salvaged after the courthouse fire back in 2019.

The old records have been stored in the Yale building in Lenoir City since they were retrieved from the courthouse after the fire. There were some permanent and historical records retrieved from the courthouse. Those have been saved and are being cleaned for preservation. The vast majority of the records had to be inspected by elected officials and department heads to be deemed nonessential. They will be properly destroyed.
