News Herald Arrest Report
Philadelphia man faces
multiple charges
A
Philadelphia man was jailed Jan. 17 on a number of charges,
including aggravated assault, vandalism and reckless
endangerment, following a domestic dispute.
Loudon County Sheriffs Office Deputy Dalton Harrison was dispatched to a business on Highway 72 in Loudon to speak to a woman about a situation she had just fled from. She said she had gotten into an argument with William S. Barr, 31, after finding marijuana under a house and escaped when he threatened to kill her. The woman said she tried to walk out of the house after the argument started, but Barr grabbed her hair and pulled her back in. While she eventually got to a vehicle with her infant son, Barr tried to prevent the woman from leaving. He grabbed her phone after she told him she was going to call 911 and blocked her in the driveway with his own vehicle.
At this point, the
woman drove back to the front of the residence, and Barr
followed on foot, kicked the rear drivers side door and
caved in the roof by jumping on the car. After briefly
going back in the home, he emerged with a pocket knife
and began stabbing at the drivers window while telling
the victim youre ... dead if you get out, wait until
you get out, according to Harrisons report.
Harrison noted in the report he saw chips on the window and a small cut in the weather stripping consistent with the womans story. Despite Barrs attempts, the woman managed to drive off in her vehicle. Barr followed in his truck and chased her at a high rate of speed until failing to navigate a turn and ending up in a ditch. Harrison later responded to a report of a wreck with no injury and encountered Barr, who had a bloody nose from the crash, was unsteady on his feet and had an odor of alcohol. Barrs truck was back on the road, but a nearby fence was damaged and parts could be seen under the vehicle, which had extensive front-end damage. Harrison administered a field sobriety test, which Barr performed poorly on. Barr was arrested on the spot. Barr was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of reckless endangerment, interference with emergency call, vandalism, driving under the influence and violation of implied consent and released on $44,500 bond.
