Philadelphia man charged with
murder
A
Philadelphia man was arrested and charged with murder early
Thursday after stabbing his roommate to death.
Loudon County Sheriffs Office deputies responded to a 911 call at 12:06 a.m. Thursday in which Erick Jovanni Santano Lopez, 20, admitted to killing the 52-year-old man he shared a home with. When deputies arrived, they found the older man dead in a kitchen chair. Santano Lopez said the two had gotten into an argument that turned physical. As they wrestled on the floor, a knife fell from the nearby television stand and Santano Lopez picked it up and started stabbing and cutting the victim while both were still on the floor.
Santano Lopez said
the man got up, went into the kitchen and sat on a
chair, but because the victim looked mean at Santano
Lopez and he thought the man was going to get up from
the chair, Santano Lopez stabbed him again.
Santano Lopez then
called 911, confessed to the crime and was detained by
deputies.
The mans body was
transported to the Knox County Regional Forensic Center
for an autopsy. The pathologist noted a stab wound to
the victims back, one to his left abdomen, one to the
right upper chest and one to the left chest that
penetrated the lung.
Santano Lopez was
charged with first-degree murder and held on $1 million
bond.
