Petition Updates
Wayne Collins Qualifies
Lenoir City mayor candidate, Wayne Collins, has
qualified to challenge mayor Tony Aikens. If Collins does run, it will
be the first time Aikens has had a challenger since being elected mayor
in 2010.
I don't really know Mr. Collins but I know he is opposed to all the over development, I know he opposed the sales tax hike, I know he's a 26 year veteran, I know Aikens doesn't like him and I know he's not afraid to go toe to toe with Aikens. Watch the video. At a council meeting in January, Collins addressed the council about over development ultimately accusing the council of running a dictatorship. He told the mayor and council, he would be running for one of their seats in the November election. In the same meeting, Aikens said he thinks things are going great in the city but if "I" am going in the wrong direction, I'm sure the voters will let me know in November. I would strongly encourage everyone to watch the video of this meeting and listen closely to what Collins and Aikens says. Below is a link to the meeting video. The good stuff starts at about the 22:00 minute mark.

Another Lenoir City council candidate has also picked up a petition. James Russell Laney picked up Friday.
As angry as city residents are about all the actions of the mayor and council, it's amazing there's not a dozen people running for office in the city. There's still time. Candidates for any of the offices below have until August 15th, noon to qualify.
