In 2014, Mr. Cole qualified to run for city council but was later removed from the ballot by the election commission when they determined he hadn't met the residency requirements of having to live inside the city limits for at least one year prior to the election. In 2016, Cole picked up qualifying petitions for both Lenoir City mayor and Lenoir City council but never filed to qualify.
