From The Loudon County Sheriff's Department OVERNIGHT MULTI-AGENCY PURSUIT ENDS IN ARREST OF DRUNK DRIVER, BLOOD ALCOHOL LEVEL NEARS TWICE LEGAL LIMIT LOUDON COUNTY, TENNESSEE - An overnight vehicle pursuit safely ended in the capture of a Loudon County man whose blood alcohol level was almost double the states legal limit of .08.
At
approximately 12:30 am, LCSO Deputy Eric Curtis observed a male who
appeared to be passed out behind the wheel of a white Mitsubishi
Eclipse in the drive-thru of McDonalds on State Route 72. When
Deputy Curtis attempted to make contact with the male, later
identified as William D. Mann, he fled from the parking lot in an
attempt to evade arrest.
LCSO Deputies, with the assistance of Loudon City Police and the
Roane County Sheriff’s Office, pursued Mann into the Southwest most
part of Loudon County for several miles ultimately terminating the
pursuit due to Mann’s dangerous operation of his vehicle.
Approximately 8 minutes later Mann was spotted again on Big Sandy
Road. Mann attempted to escape by driving backwards, and in an
effort to prevent Mann from causing further danger to the community,
was blocked in by LCSO Deputy Christian Rogers. Mann then rammed
Roger’s patrol vehicle twice before jumping out of his vehicle and
fleeing on foot. Deputy Rogers and Deputy Kenny Palmer pursued Mann
on foot where he was taken into custody without further incident and
without any injuries.
Mann has been charged with Driving Under the Influence (2nd
Offense), Felony Evading, Felony Reckless Endangerment, Aggravated
Assault and numerous other traffic violations. He is being held at
the Loudon County Detention Center pending bond.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash between Mann
and the LCSO Patrol Unit.
