Now It's Joggers
If it's not bad enough that we have to deal with the
invading hoards of bicyclers, now we're going to have to give up our
Loudon County roads to joggers. It appears so.
Saturday I started getting complaints about something going on around Melton Hill dam area, runners, bicyclers and general traffic problems. Figured it was just some kind of event in the park area. Sunday, got more complaints about joggers totally blocking Buttermilk Road. Some folks reported being cussed and flipped the bird by some of the joggers. Decided I should go see what in the world was going on. What I found was unbelievable. Dozens of joggers were blocking one lane of Buttermilk for miles like they were in in charge of our roads and the traveling public just had to do the best they could to get around this mess. There was no traffic control or law enforcement any where. I reported it to our 911 dispatch. Not sure the outcome. Turns out, this was some kind of a sponsored tough-man run or some such stupidity as that. Here's a link to the company who brought this mess to us. Buttermilk Road is a very dangerous road under the best circumstances but add joggers and bicycles and you have a real recipe for disaster. How stupid do you have to be to go jogging down this road. But don't just take my word for it, these dopes paid $250 for the honor to block our roads. That's pretty stupid. I had a little confrontation with one of the jogging idiots who was giving me some kind of slow down or mover over sign. I stopped and asked him what the heck was going on. He informed me they had the right to take over the roads. I told him he'd lost his mind at which point he whipped out some kind of fake badge in a plastic holder. When I asked him who he was and where he was from, he quickly ran away. He wasn't even tough enough to back up his fake badge. Apparently, the word's out all over the region, if you want to block the roads and cause chaos and havoc on the roads, head to Loudon County, you can do anything you want and nobody will stop you. Something's got to be done. Sheriff Guider has made it clear he's not going to do anything about the bicycles and now that the joggers have figured out they can block our roads with no penalties, they'll be back. I'm not sure what we do, call the highway patrol or maybe the National Guard? I will have this issue on the next Loudon County Commission workshop agenda to discuss.
