November Update
Deadline Thursday
The deadline for city candidates to qualify to seek
office is tomorrow at noon, 8/16/18. But as the clock ticks down, more
candidates have picked up petitions and others have filed their
petitions. James Brandon has picked up a petition for candidate to Lenoir City council. If Brandon qualifies, that will make 7 candidates for the 4 seats. No one has picked up a petition to challenge Jennifer Wampler for the two year term. Earlena Maples has filed her petition and qualified. I understand the Lenoir City deep state is working overtime to prevent Ms. Maples from running for council. That ought to tell you something. The Lenoir City school board now has 4 candidates for 2 seats with Matthew Coleman having qualified. Looks like the incumbent Greenback aldermen will all be running unopposed unless there's a last minute entrant. However, incumbent mayor, Tom Peeler, will be challenged by Walter Birchfield. The Loudon race is the one that looks like it's going to be a real free-for-all. Any way it goes, there will be at least 2 new councilmen. With incumbent councilman, Jeff Harris, running for the mayor's spot and incumbent Lynn Milsaps decision not to seek re-election, two spots will be open. There are currently 8 qualified candidates for the four seats with the possibility of another 4 if they file their petitions. Current mayor, Jim Greenway, has picked petitions for both mayor and council. He can only choose, but as of now, he has quilified for neither. I'll have a full update of candidates Monday.
