No Tax Payments

At the last Lenoir City council meeting, mayor Tony Aikens, announced that the city will end the practice of taking county property tax payments for city tax payers. The service of collecting county property taxes for city property owners has been for the convenience of city property owners so that they could pay their city and county property taxes at the same time and same place.

Aikens provided a memorandum from the city auditor that recommended ending the practice. Oddly. this practice has been in place for as long as anyone can remember and the city has been using the same auditor for many, many years. Apparently, the auditor just decided it might be a problem.

Aikens did say that the county property tax collections will continue through this tax cycle, February, but will not be offered in the next tax year.
