Niota man faces several charges including possession of meth

A wanted Niota man now faces additional charges after his room was searched at an inn in Loudon County — and multiple drugs were reportedly discovered.

On Tuesday, July 9, at approximately 5:03 a.m., Deputy Charles Watson with the Loudon County Sheriff ’s Office responded to an inn on Highway 72 regarding “a wanted person.”

Watson observed a red Kia sedan that matched the description of a vehicle operated by the suspect he was looking for. According to reports, deputies made contact with a sleeping 34-year-old Erik Hicks inside a vehicle.

It was confirmed that Hicks had warrants out of both Loudon and McMinn counties.

According to reports, Hicks was taken into custody without incident. While speaking with Hicks, deputies discovered the suspect had a hotel room inside the building.

The report obtained by the News-Herald states that Hicks gave verbal consent for law enforcement officers to search the hotel room in his name. Deputies then performed the search of the hotel room and recovered approximately 8.3 ounces of meth, 9.8 grams of alprazolam, and 44 grams of pressed fentanyl pills.

Deputies reportedly also recovered a glass bong with drug residue. Furthermore, deputies also attempted to locate Samantha Kennedy for a U.S. Marshal’s warrant out of Virginia.

Kennedy’s Tennessee identification and belongings were located inside the hotel room. Hicks confirmed that Kennedy had been at the hotel prior to law enforcement’s arrival but stated she left with a friend.

Narcotic Investigator Jenkins was notified and responded to the scene. Deputies placed the narcotics and paraphernalia in evidence.

Hicks and Kennedy are both currently on probation. Hicks was transported to the Loudon County Jail without incident. Hick’s vehicle was located and was left in the parking lot at his request.

Hicks was charged with manufacturing, sale, delivery, resale SCH II, manufacturing, sale, delivery, resale IV, manufacturing, delivery, sale or possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of probation and was held on $154,000 bond.

.Erin Leigh Tilley, 26, Loudon, was charged with criminal impersonation, failure to appear criminal court, and was released on $4,500 bond.
