New York men jailed after theft attempt
Three New York men are facing various charges after a
cashier at a local retail store was short-changed on Thanksgiving
Day.
Lenoir City Police Officer Shannon Runyan notes in a
report that Suraj Rostas, 19, and Vasile Anghel, 25, attempted the
short-change during a $2,100 purchase they were making. Anghel
short-changed the cashier of $100, but was met by a retail store
representative. Rostas fled, leaving the purchased merchandise
behind.
“The second male, Vasile Anghel, successfully
short-changed the cashier of $100,” Runyan wrote in a report. “This
is observed on (the retail store) camera footage. Contact was made
with the defendant on a subsequent traffic stop wherein a California
driver’s license was found in his wallet with his picture and a
license number that belonged to a female in California and an
unknown male’s name that is not his.”

was purchased from a friend for $25.

vehicle. During the traffic stop, Ionel Rostas did not have a

this is the name that the defendant presented as his name to law
enforcement,” Runyan wrote in a report. “The Department of
Homeland Security Investigations however verified by fingerprint
that the defendant’s name is Ionel Rostas and that U.S.
Immigration encountered him in 2016 under the name Ionel Rostas.”
