New Salaries

When the new census data comes in, it's expected Loudon County will move up to around 54,000 residents. That's up from 48,000 in the 2010 census.

Moving above the 50,000 mark also moves us from a Class 4 county to a Class 5 county.

For some reason, and for years, the state legislators have set the minimum salaries for local, elected county officials based on the county class. However, the legislators haven't seen fit to provide any funding for the salary mandate. (Unfunded Mandate) Moving to Class 5, moves most of our county elected officials up the salary scale.

              Assessor, Court Clerk
County Mayor   Sheriff   Highway    Circuit Court Clerk, Trustee,
          Superintendent Register Of Deeds
Old Salary $96,494.00   $91,901.00   $91,901.00   $83,545.00
New salary $104,803.00   $99,813.00   $99,813.00   $90,740.00

County commissioners stipend, $8,021.00 per year, are exempt from any mandatory, minimum salary mandates and have remained the same for over ten years. Judges salaries, $167,211.00, are set through the court system.

Growing comes with growing pains, so an extra sixty grand from the tax payers for elected official salaries is just one of those pains.
