New Marina 2

Loudon County resident, Michael Gaddis, is proposing a large marina in the Antioch Church Road and Rest Camp Roads. Gaddis has already been approved for a 44 lot subdivision and now apparently plans a commercial marina with his development. Some residents in the area are opposed to the marina and the traffic a commercial operation will bring to the area.

Below is some information about the proposed marina and contact information for TVA to provide comments.

The marina is basically a commercial development in a residential neighborhood. While the overall tract of land is larger, only a small portion touches the water, so dredging out the cove is how they plan to squeeze in 50 to 60 docks.

The ARAP is by definition an alteration to the natural habitat.  A normal permit doesn’t require a public comment period, but this does require it.  A sign on the road on the opposite side of the property and one small notice in the paper may meet the posting requirements, but who sees it or knows what it is in time to comment?

You can also see the huge parking lot with a ramp directly into the river.  They don’t hand out permits for boat ramps everywhere for a reason.

Also, there’s the wildlife affected.

The cove is home to Great Blue Herons, Banded kingfishers, beavers, osprey and Bald Eagles. Fisherman frequent the cove, as well
