News Herald Arrest Report
N.C. man jailed after deputy
injured
A
North Carolina man was arrested Jan. 10 after an altercation
with two Loudon County Sheriffs Office deputies resulted in
injuries to one of them.
After one deputy was dispatched to a Loudon hotel for a broken window, he let dispatchers know Thomas Yates Hooper, 52, of Burlington, N.C., was uncooperative and noncompliant. Deputy Marco Luna arrived shortly thereafter and saw the first deputy backing out of a room with Hooper. The deputy attempted to detain Hooper, who resisted and caused both men to go through the already broken window and sustain injuries. Hooper continued to resist, and Luna was forced to use his taser to subdue Hooper and place him in custody.
Both Hooper and
the injured deputy were transported to Fort Loudoun
Medical Center, but Hooper refused medical treatment and
again tried to resist arrest. Hooper eventually calmed
down and was transported to Loudon County Jail without
further incident.
A LCSO detective followed up with the hotel manager and learned Hooper broke four windows valued at an estimated $5,000. The detective also found a small bag of cocaine and a small bag with a green leafy substance inside Hoopers room. Hooper was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a Schedule II substance, resisting arrest, simple possession/casual exchange and vandalism and held on $68,000 bond. Jan. 5
