More Investigation

The Loudon County School Board held their much anticipated meeting Tuesday night to address the six week investigation into Director of Schools, Jason Vance. The investigation was initiated after Vance sent complaint to Loudon High School basketball coach, Josh Graves. Mr. Vance had taken issue with how the coach had dealt with his son and other students on the basketball team. Ultimately, that complaint was released against board policy, to the public.

Board members met in closed session with board attorneys to hear the outcome of the investigation. After the hour and a half closed door meeting, the board went into public session with only one item on the agenda, to discuss the director's contract. There were around a hundred people in attendance at the meeting. More than half were there in hopes of hearing that the investigation would result in Vance's dismissal or at least a reprimand. However, the board ultimately took no action but decided to ask the attorney to expand the scope of his investigation.

The board may as well come to grips with the fact that a relatively small number of people will not be satisfied till Jason Vance is fired, taken out in the street and hung from the nearest lamp post. Nothing short of that will satisfy them.

I have no idea what the board was told in the closed door meeting with the lawyers but obviously, the investigation found no cause for firing the director or you can bet some of the board members would have made a motion to fire him at the open meeting.

At some point the board will have to step to the plate and bring this whole affair to an end. They have about three options:

  1. They can fire Vance without cause, expect a lawsuit if that happens,
  2. They can buy his contract out, about a half million dollars, or
  3. They can reprimand him for his parenting skills.

Lastly, they could say, this whole mess could have been avoided if someone hadn't violated policy and let the original email complaint into the public and move on.
