Moratorium Extended

Villas At 321

At the last Lenoir City council meeting, the council voted unanimously to extend the apartment moratorium for another year to June 2026. Unfortunately, they left the R-3 zoning in place that allows up to 24 units per acre.

While the apartment moratorium extension is a good thing, the city zoning code would still allow extremely high density for single family developments with no restrictions of any kind related to the location or the roads in the area.

Even mayor Tony Aikens, supported the extension. Just how bad do things in Lenoir City have to be for even Aikens to call for the moratorium? Aikens has already announced that he will not be running for mayor again. Unfortunately, the damage has been done and can not be undone.

Long after Aikens is gone, his legacy will be the disaster he left behind.
