Missed Opportunity

The voters of the second congressional district missed an opportunity last Thursday to elect a great representative to send to Washington to represent us. Instead, it will be a clod going. Unfortunately, Tim Burchett won the election for that seat.

Burchett has a long history as a career politician, going from one government job to the next. Don't reckon he's ever been able to support himself as a non elected official or at least I never heard him make that point. We do know he can lie with the best of them. We know he has a long history of taking care of himself and his family at the tax payers expense. We know he has a long history with problems of keeping his finances straight and seems to make a lot of "mistakes" keeping his personal and political finances separated. And of course, he's well known for working with democrats. Come to think of it, his history should make him fit right in in Washington DC. His only accomplishment in state government was passing the road kill bill making it legal for folks to eat animals killed on the road. Maybe he will bring that kind of wisdom and insight to DC.

This election simply turned into a Knox County vs Loudon County contest and Knox County was not going to allow a Loudon County candidate to represent them and they had the overwhelming numbers to see to it. Knox County has about 65% of the votes in the in the district, Loudon County has about 6%. Coincidently, Knox County voters also voted for Randy Boyd for Governor. They apparently just aren't big supporters of conservative candidates.

Jimmy Matlock did an outstanding job representing Loudon County in the campaign but the math just couldn't work, but he gave it his all. Win or lose, Matlock has twice the character of Burchett and always will. I'll predict that in a very short time, Burchett will have more of those "mistakes" with his finances and will continue to operate, business as usual. He'll just be another Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander and be an embarrassment to Tennessee like they are.

I'm sure Knox County voters know Burchett's a clod, but I guess they figure, at least he's their clod.
