A new memorial was dedicated to the memory of Mitchell W. Stout at Highland Park Elementary School Friday during a Veterans Day Ceremony. Mr. Ken Shockly had spearheaded the drive to raise funds for the memorial.

Mitchell Stout was a local boy. He attended Highland Park Elementary School and was the president of the sixth grade class.  He went on to Lenoir City High School but moved to North Carolina with his dad just before he graduated."

Below is Sergeant Stout's official Medal of Honor citation. He is the only Loudon Countian to receive the Medal Of Honor.
