Martel/Beals Chapel Annexation?
According to agenda item 3 on the Lenoir City Planning Commission meeting for Tuesday, May 1st, a property owner on Beals Chapel is requesting annexation into Lenoir City. Are you scratching your head too? The 65 acres is a part of the old Cedar Hills Golf Course. The entrance to the property is nearly two miles from the nearest Lenoir City boundary. In fact, the property is way closer to Knox County and the Farragut city limits than Lenoir City's. According to the state property data web site, the properties belong to SETHFIELD LP, C/O JEFFREY J FIELDS BEALS CHAPEL RD. As hard as it is to believe, Lenoir City could actually annex the property because it's within their Urban Growth Boundary. But if they did annex it, they would have to provide city services to the property. Police, fire, garbage ETC. You have to wonder why a property owner would want his land annexed into the city. All they get is a 75% higher property tax bill. Could it be maybe they feel they might be able to get by with something under city control than county control? I have no idea. The thought of the city annexing land up here in the heart of the county doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling. If you have any questions you can contact the Lenoir City Planning Office, 986-9876. |
