Man wanted in Loudon County captured after standoff

LOUDON COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A man who was at the center of a search earlier this week that prompted an elementary school to be placed on lockdown has been captured following a standoff.

According to the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office, Thomas Fortune was captured Thursday afternoon.

LCSO reported that Fortune had barricaded himself in a home on Donaldson Road in Philadelphia. Following a quick standoff, Fortune was taken into custody.

On Tuesday, the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were searching for Fortune in the area of Pond Creek Road and McCrary Street. That search prompted a lockdown of Philadelphia Elementary school as a precaution. The search was suspended around 4 p.m., roughly one hour after LCSO released that the search was underway.

Fortune was previously wanted on charges including felony evading arrest, violation of probation and failure to appear. The sheriff’s office did not release if any additional charges are pending.
