Man charged with false imprisonment, assault

A Lenoir City man is being charged with false imprisonment after he kept a man captive for several minutes April 6.

Responding to a call in the 7000 block of Old Midway Road that Tanner Earl Wilkerson, 24, was walking around with a case, talking to the walls and saying the police were after him, Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Craig Brewer talked with the owner of the residence who said the case Wilkerson was carrying resembled one for a shotgun and that the building’s door should be unlocked.

“On making entry into the residence, while clearing the residence, I (opened) a bedroom door where I saw Tanner Wilkerson in and he was there and had a knife up above his shoulder and in a stabbing position then took a step toward me,” Brewer wrote in his report. “(I) gave commands for him to drop the knife and he did after two or three commands.”

The owner said when Wilkerson came inside he was “paranoid and scaring him,” according to the report. Wilkerson told the owner to get on his knees and be quiet, and was kept in the hallway and bathroom for 20 minutes. The owner was able to escape the house after Wilkerson checked on a noise he heard toward the back of the building.

Wilkerson was charged with false imprisonment, aggravated assault and contraband in a penal institution and held on $42,000 bond.
