Man charged after threatening
owner
A
Loudon man was charged Saturday with public intoxication
after threatening to shoot a restaurant owner.
Loudon Police Officer Christopher Clemmer responded to a restaurant shortly after midnight because of the threat. The owner told Clemmer a drunken man, identified as Jack Clarence Smith Jr., 68, entered the bar area of the restaurant and began to make a scene. Smith demanded the owner make him hush puppies, according to a report. The owner asked Smith to leave because the kitchen was closed and the bar would be closing soon. Smith told the man he was going outside and wouldnt fight him, but that he would shoot him.
Clemmer then confronted Smith, who was unsteady on his
feet and smelled strongly of alcoholic beverages.
Clemmer placed Smith in custody and searched his car
where Clemmer found a 9mm pistol in the passenger seat,
according to a report.
Smith was charged with public intoxication and released on $1,000 bond. Drunk man keeps drivingA Lenoir City man was arrested Saturday after driving on a flat tire while under the influence. Loudon County Sheriffs Office Deputy Chance Gray was dispatched to Highway 11 near Muddy Creek Road after receiving a report of someone driving on a flat tire. Gray found a white Dodge Ram with the passenger-side front tire flat. The driver, Leonard Dean Bean, 60, exited his vehicle as Gray was exiting his patrol car. Gray noticed Bean was unsteady on his feet, swaying and having difficulty walking, Gray wrote in a report. Gray saw dirt and blood on Beans clothing and noticed he had bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. Gray asked Bean how much he had to drink. Bean said he had a couple. Gray asked Bean if he felt he was OK to drive. Bean made a gesture with his hand as if to say he was unsure, according to a report. Bean performed poorly on all field sobriety tests.
