Man caught with 55 grams of meth
A Dandridge man is facing drug charges after law
enforcement found a large bag of methamphetamine.
Responding to a call of a suspicious person asleep or
passed out in a gray Honda at a gas station on Highway 72, Loudon
Police Officer Kent Russell talked with an employee at 6:46 a.m.
stating a vehicle had been at the pump since about 3 a.m. and that
driver was asleep behind the wheel.
Russell approached the vehicle and identified John
Fred Hughes, 45.
“Mr. Hughes was searching for his wallet,” Russell
wrote in his report. “I observed a butane torch and digital scales
sitting on the front passenger seat. Mr. Hughes asked to exit the
vehicle to look for his wallet. He kept putting his hand in his
right pocket despite being asked not to. I conducted a pat down of
Mr. Hughes in which I felt his right front pocket a glass pipe like
what is commonly used to smoke methamphetamine.”
Hughes’ license came back suspended after checking
with dispatch. While searching the vehicle, Russell found a plastic
bag with a crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine. The
bag’s weight came in at about 55 grams. A clear pink bag in Hughes’
front pocket also contained meth, according to the report.
Hughes was charged with driving on a
revoked/suspended license, possession of drug paraphernalia and
manufacture, sell, delivery and resale of a Schedule II substance
and held without bond.
