Man attempts to burglarize
Laundromat
A
Lenoir City man is facing burglary charges after law
enforcement responded to a laundromat on Kingston Street in
Lenoir City.
Dispatch told Lenoir City Police Officer Jamie Pistole on Saturday that off-duty officer Sgt. Ronnie Reagan had detained Rustin Lynn Key, 36, and needed additional officers. Pistole and others arrived and learned Reagan and his wife were traveling on Kingston Street when she saw a man trying to hide behind a washing machine. Reagan detained Key as he exited the building. Rustin had no laundry in the establishment and had no reason to be there, Pistole wrote in a report. Officers observed that the screws had been taken out of the doors of eight washing machines and it is believed Rustin was attempting to steal what money that there was in those machines at the time.
Key, who was
released from jail just 13 hours earlier, said he was
broke and needed money.
Key was charged with burglary, vandalism and possession of burglary tools and held on $9,500 bond. Virginia man gets DUI after interstate wreck
A
Roanoke, Va., man faces various charges following a
wreck Friday on Interstate 75 South.
Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Brandon Webb responded to a call of property damage near the 83 mile marker. Webb noticed a box truck in the right ditch and another vehicle facing southbound traffic in the median across from the truck. A man approached Webb who said he spoke with another driver who witnessed the wreck and recorded it on a dash camera. The man said he saw the box truck driver throw a bottle out of his vehicle after the wreck occurred. Webb also learned a skid steer being used to clear vegetation along the interstate for the Tennessee Department of Transportation was involved in the incident. After speaking with the skid steer driver, Webb reviewed the camera footage and determined Charles Thomas Scott, 72, was the driver at fault. Scott allegedly was seen driving over the fog line at least three times within 30 seconds of the wreck. Scott drove off the main roadway before striking the skid steer and clipping the back end of Ford Escape, causing it to spin out of control into the median. No injuries occurred. Webb then spoke with Scott, who had bloodshot and watery eyes, complained about a dry mouth and couldnt stand up on his own. Mr. Scott denied throwing a bottle out of his vehicle when I asked him about it, Webb wrote in a report. Mr. Scott also denied that he had any alcoholic beverages prior to the crash or while driving. I went to the passengers side door of the Penske truck where the witness had stated he had thrown a bottle out and I found a blue 1.75L Platinum 7X vodka bottle that was only a quarter of the way full lying just beneath the passenger door on the ground.
Scott denied
seeing the bottle and didnt take ownership of it
until he learned a witness saw him. He then said he
threw it because he was scared it would look like
he was drinking and driving.
