Man attempts robbery, wrecks trying to flee

A Knoxville man is facing multiple charges after he attempted Friday to rob a Broadway Street laundromat and later wrecked on Highway 11.

Dennis Wayne Ross, 42, entered the laundromat wearing a white cloth over his head with two eye holes and carrying a BB gun. Ross pointed the BB gun at an employee near a counter, who thought the gun was a “deadly weapon,” according to the report.

The employee then pulled out a revolver and pointed it at Ross, who fled through the back door.

A short time later, Sgt. Eddie Range identified the vehicle and activated his emergency equipment. The report notes Ross drove speeds up to 119 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone, passing Loudon County Sheriff’s Office vehicles on West Broadway. Ross was treated for minor injuries and taken to Loudon County Jail after questioning from Lenoir City Police investigators.

Ross was charged with aggravated assault, evading arrest and attempted aggravated robbery and held on $210,000 bond.
