Man arrested
for endangerment, evading
A Lenoir City man was taken
into custody on the afternoon of New Year's Eve after initially
being spotted by police for speeding.
Noticing the driver of a green Dodge Dakota, later identified as Anthony Pringle Satterfield, 22, Lenoir City, turn a corner and then head down the road at a "very high rate of speed," Lenoir City Police Officer Keith Sennett watched the vehicle drive down an alley and come out onto 1st Avenue between A and B streets, according to the arrest report.
"Defendant drove through two stop signs with out slowing down
the vehicle at all," Sennett wrote in the report. "While
crossing D street, the defendant's vehicle was traveling so fast
that all four wheels came off the ground. There were three
children and an adult playing in the road while the defendant
was driving these speeds and out (of) control at them."
Sennett said he stopped Satterfield's vehicle because of the
"extreme dangers" posed by the incident. Satterfield left the
vehicle in drive as he got out of the Dakota and ran into the
woods for about two blocks, according to police.
"The vehicle continued on down the road driverless toward three
more children and their two parents almost striking them,"
Sennett wrote, noting that the Dakota came to rest on a fence in
the 900 block of West 1st Avenue.
Police found Satterfield behind a brick wall about 75 yards from
his car. Sennett learned that Satterfield had been operating the
vehicle on a revoked license.
Satterfield was charged with felony evading, driving on a
revoked/suspended license and nine counts of reckless
endangerment and held on $57,000 bond.
