LOUDON, Tenn. (WATE) - Deputy Jason Scott was responding to a domestic disturbance call in the morning hours of March 12, 2004, when he was shot and killed by a 16-year-old boy.

Fifteen years later, the Loudon County community remembered the sacrifice that Scott made that day.

The Loudon County Sheriff's Office posted on its Facebook page that his death feels like yesterday for many of the law enforcement officers who were at the nearly 30-hour long standoff.

The post continued to say Scott's story is still told to young officers to remind them and the community what kind of blessing it was to have a man like Scott in their lives and a part of the Loudon County law enforcement family.

Loudon County Sheriff Tim Guider said the department honors Scott every year on March 12.

"I've always told the family that as long as I'm here we'll never forget," Guider said.

Scott was shot four times while he got out of his patrol car. The 16-year-old had been beating his mother with a post before shooting Scott.

Deputies called for assistance and the teenager barricaded himself, armed with numerous rifles.

Three other officers were injured when they were being shot at by the teenager.

Scott was flown to University of Tennessee Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

The suspect was found dead after the standoff, suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Scott had been with the Loudon County Sheriff's Office for three years.

At the time of the incident, Scott's wife was pregnant. She gave birth to Jayden Scott just a couple of weeks after his death.

"There's several in the department now that never did know Jason, so I said just look at Jayden. That's Jason," Guider said.
