Loudon County Schools continues to address facility needs due to student growth.

As the district surpasses 5,000 students for the first time, we have needs to be addressed on the north end of the county.  Highland Park has increased over 7% and is nearing 400 students, but still has an open classroom for growth due to the 2017 building project that added an additional wing of classrooms to the school.  The district currently has no open classrooms at Eaton Elementary or North Middle Schools.  North Middle has grown over 7% in the last two years and is currently at 780 students and Eaton elementary added the equivalent of one classroom of students from last year.  This growth has not only maxed out our facility capacity but has also compounded traffic congestion in that area.

The school system plans to address all these concerns, as well as the community's desire to have a high school option for students that live in the northern end of the county.  The school board is in the process of purchasing property by First Baptist Church from Highway 11 to Simpson Road. This property will be utilized to construct a new school consisting of grades 7-12.  This one project will address the facility needs at both Eaton Elementary and North Middle while also providing a high school option for county students.

After the school has been constructed, Eaton Elementary will become a school containing grades K-3 and North Middle will contain grades 4-6.  This grade level restructuring will allow growth for 7-8 additional classrooms of students at each of these two facilities and ease traffic congestion in the interim.

The school district is planning based on actual student increases we have already seen as well as the potential of over 7,800 additional housing units in the North end of the county.  The district would like to thank County Commission for assisting the district in the purchasing of the property and initial design of the school. Stay tuned for more updates...
