Loudon County Resident Hosts Podcast Detailing Failures and Stories in Afghan War

My name is Kyle Reynolds and I worked in signals intelligence in my time during the Army. We conducted intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions in the MC-12W over Afghanistan.

When I left the Army, I had a college degree and some writing experience which allowed me to get a job as the political analyst for Train, Advise, Assist Command-South. While I worked as a political analyst, I met Zach Popp and Stu Velasco. My job was to analyze intelligence collected on our Afghan allies and brief them to the colonel in charge of intelligence in Southern Afghanistan. Every analyst I knew was convinced the war was going badly, but we noticed that intelligence would be watered down as it made its way from our section to the general in charge of Southern Afghanistan. He would then water it down further when he briefed the commander of US forces in Afghanistan and this was even further watered down by the time it got to Congress.

The constant lying and watering down of the truth led to Congress thinking the war was going well when, in fact, it was always progressing badly. We all left the intelligence community to do other things. I became an RN and moved back to Loudon County where I currently work in hospice. A year ago, Zach reached out thinking we could start a podcast highlighting the failures of the war and talking about the history, culture, and politics of Afghanistan. I got my old books back out and we really started doing research again. Of course, the whole thing collapsed last year and it actually boosted our podcast's popularity.

We don't monetize it or make money from it. Our only goal is to put a light on America's longest war and obtain some closure for ourselves. We have 40 episodes available and they get better as they go along because we figured out how to actually do a podcast. We have a lot of episodes with special guests including authors, green berets, college professors, and others. We want the world to know why things worked out the way they did because Afghanistan was barely a topic in the 20 years it raged on.
