Loudon County inmates charged with assault

Three inmates were charged with assault stemming from an altercation that took place last week at Loudon County Jail.

Loudon County Sheriff's Office Deputy Brandon Dishner received information from Cpl. Pam Snow that three inmates in block D of the facility had attacked another inmate the night of July 27, according to the arrest report.

Dishner spoke with a male inmate, who said he was in the last cell of the block playing cards with two other inmates, Donnie Bo Barker, 26, Greenback, and Jeremy Roy Edwards, 28, Knoxville, when a fourth occupant, Jason Lynn Roberts, 29, Loudon, walked into the cell and asked why (the victim) was moved from block F a few days before the incident, according to the report.

Barker then "demanded that (the victim) give up his breakfast tray the next morning," Dishner wrote.

He "said no they could not take his food," according to Dishner. "(The victim) stated Roberts then began striking him in the head, and face. Once Roberts began the assault, Barker and Edwards joined the attack, according to the report.

A fifth inmate was awakened by the incident and tried to get the three inmates off the victim. By that time, guards had arrived and got the man to safety.
During subsequent interviews, Dishner determined that Roberts, Barker and Edwards "intentionally, knowingly and recklessly cause bodily injury to (the victim) in an apparent attempt to take advantage of him," according to the report.

The victim was treated for injuries to his ribs. Roberts, Barker and Edwards were charged with assault.
